LSU on verge of landing elite transfer portal target from heated SEC rival

LSU women’s basketball could be on the verge of landing an elite transfer from the Tigers’ biggest SEC rival. Former South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley’s search for a new home is nearing an end, and LSU is firmly in the mix.

According to a report from On3, LSU is “the strong front runner and Fulwiley leaning heavily towards committing to the Tigers.”

Fulwiley spent two seasons with the Gamecocks. She only made three starts, but was one of the SEC’s top scorers off the bench as a freshman and sophomore. She averaged 11.7 points per game both years in South Carolina. She averaged 18.4 minutes per game on Dawn Staley’s national championship-winning squad in 2024.

Fulwiley is considered to be one of the top-ranked transfers in the portal. Guards with her ability are in short supply.

LSU is in need of a guard after losing significant production to the transfer portal. LSU returns Flau’Jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams, but Mulkey needs a true point guard to run the floor. Fulwiley could be the missing link. The Tigers have struggled to find stability at the point guard position ever since Alexis Morris left in 2023.

There’s no doubt about it — Fulwiley can compete in this league. LSU has taken risks before with transfers moving up a level or coming from weaker conferences, but Fulwiley is tested against the best competition in the sport. Mulkey has done good work in the transfer portal so far, especially with the front-court additions, but adding a dynamic guard can get LSU’s roster where it needs to be.
