This is a big weekend for Gabe Taylor. The younger brother of legendary former Washington safety Sean Taylor, Gabe, is in town for the Commanders‘ rookie minicamp. He is one of 21 players in Ashburn on a tryout basis. Gabe Taylor could follow in his older brother’s footsteps if things go well.
The Commanders opened the minicamp on Friday, and Taylor saw his very own Washington helmet for the first time. Check it out:

What an incredibly special moment for Taylor. Washington fans will be rooting for Taylor to have a strong weekend and earn a spot on the Commanders’ 90-man roster for training camp.
While Taylor is known for being Sean’s younger brother, he was a multi-year starter for Rice in college. He also improved each season and looked terrific at Rice’s pro day. Washington fans shouldn’t look at Taylor as the next Sean Taylor. He isn’t. No one is or has been. It’s unfair to Taylor to put those types of expectations on him. Fans should root for Taylor, but keep an open mind.
Ultimately, general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn will pick the best players. If Taylor proves he’s one of the best, he’ll be a Commander. If things go well this weekend, Taylor’s story has the potential to be one of the best of the year.
