Longhorns LB gets high praise from rival QB

With the start of the college football season only a few months away, the Texas Longhorns are projected to have one of the best defenses in the country. That is partly due to a linebacker core led by All-American Anthony Hill Jr., Liona Lefau, and Trey Moore. They will also have some help from Brad Spence, who committed to the Longhorns out of the transfer portal back in December.

The Klein Forest High School product joins Texas after a sold run in Arkansas. While his teammates were sad to see him go, they have high expectations for what he will accomplish while playing for Steve Sarkisian. This week at the  Manning Passing Academy, Arkansas starting quarterback Taylen Green spoke about what type of player the Longhorns are getting in Spence.

“They’re getting a dawg,” Green said of Spence, per CJ Vogel of OnTexasFootball. “Flying around the ball, sideline to sideline, a smart player who’s got a good feel for football and really good instincts. He’ll definitely make it tough on us, but I love Brad, and it’s going to be a great one, I’m excited for.”

In his last season as a Razorback, Spence recorded 55 total tackles and 4.5 sacks. He also added one pass deflection to his resume while proving to be an essential part of the Arkansas defense. He will look to take his game to another level while wearing the burnt orange.

When the regular season begins, the Houston native will hone his craft alongside future NFL draft picks. That includes Hill, who is projected to be a potential first-round pick next spring. Lefau has also generated some drafted talks after recording a career-high 63  tacks and two sacks last year. That duo will once again be one of the best in the SEC. As Spence prepares to start his Longhorn career, he will not be the only new face in the Texas linebacking core.  Four-star Elijah Barnes will make his college debut this upcoming season. He was ranked the No. 3 linebacker prospect in the 2025 class.

Spence will get to face his former teammates on Nov. 22 when the Longhorns and Razorbacks face off in Austin.
