Local columnist predicts Spartans to reach bowl game, upset rival in season predictions

Will Michigan State football turn some heads and get back on the national scale this fall? Graham Couch of the Lansing State Journal is expecting that to be the case based on his recently released game-by-game predictions for the Spartans this season.

Like many who follow the Spartans, Couch has his thoughts on how the season will play out — which apparently is pretty good. Couch released his game-by-game predictions for Michigan State football a few days ago, and I was personally excited to see his predictions align with mine from a few weeks ago.

Without giving away Couch’s full predictions, here are the notable takeaways from his column:

  • The Spartans get off to a fast 4-0 start, with notable wins over Boston College and USC during first month of season
  • Michigan State upsets in-state rival Michigan for their first victory over the Wolverines since 2021
  • The Spartans experience a three-game losing streak late in the season
  • Michigan State reaches postseason, with a predicted matchup against a familiar face at a Big 12 school in the bowl game

The full predictions from Couch can be found by clicking here.

Michigan State opens the 2025 season on Friday in a home matchup against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on FS1.
