The Jacksonville Jaguars picked up Travon Walker’s fifth-year option for the 2026 season. But what about fellow 2022 first-round pick Devin Lloyd?
“No plans right now in terms of we’re having those conversations, getting used to the player,” Liam Coen said on Wednesday. “We just gotta get used to him a little bit and get to know him a little bit.”
All players selected in the first round receive a standard four-year rookie contract, but unlike players who are taken in Rounds 2-7, the organization has the ability with first-rounders to pick up or decline a fifth-year option.
With Lloyd entering the fourth and final year of his rookie deal, that decision for the 2026 season has to be made by May 1st of this offseason.
Over the Cap projects that, if picked up, Lloyd’s contract next season would be worth $14.751 million. These fifth-year option contracts are for one season and are predetermined by the CBA, based on playing time, position played, and any Pro Bowls made. These deals are also fully guaranteed.
With new defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile’s background coaching linebackers, along with his malleable defensive scheme that can help further unlock Lloyd’s versatility, there might not be another player this season who benefits more from this scheme change than Lloyd.
“We’re excited about him,” added Coen. “A guy that we see we can do some things with. We do feel excited about some of his versatility and experience. So some of those conversations, they’ll be open and honest and communicated.”
