A recent 2025 NFL draft nugget suggested it will be unlikely for the New England Patriots to trade down from the No. 4 overall pick, if Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Penn State’s Abdul Carter aren’t available.
When answering a fan’s question, The Athletic’s Chad Graff spoke with someone with a team picking outside of the top 10, and that individual voiced some doubt regarding the Patriots’ chances of trading down.
“Slim. I talked to someone from a team who picks outside the top 10, and they said they’d be shocked if someone moved up for the fourth pick,” Graff wrote. “Here’s the rationale: This draft class has two blue-chip prospects (Hunter and Carter). After that, the next tier has around a dozen prospects. So why move up to No. 4 when the player there is likely rated around the same as the No. 10 player?”
If the Patriots are locked in at No. 4, they could turn to offensive tackle, wide receiver, edge rusher or even running back. There are multiple positions with fitting talent on the board. We recently assembled a roundup of the current mock draft picks from multiple media outlets.
But everything could change on draft day. Depending on how the board falls and what happens from now until Day 1, a team might suddenly be interested in making a deal. And the Patriots might be interested in listening.
