The Los Angeles Lakers played one final summer league game in Las Vegas on Friday evening. It was a consolation game, as they went 1-3 in their first three contests and will not advance to the semifinals.
Dalton Knecht, Bronny James and Darius Bazley were just a few of the players the team decided to hold out of this contest. It took on the Denver Nuggets, and despite being short-handed, it was fairly competitive for most of the first three quarters.
Early on, forward Cole Swider was hot as L.A. led by as many as six points in the second quarter. But the Nuggets started to pull away late in the third quarter, and they outscored L.A. 30-15 in the final frame en route to a 106-84 victory.
Swider cooled off considerably after making five of his seven shot attempts in the first period. He finished 6-of-15 from the field and 2-of-8 from 3-point range, giving him 17 points. Off the bench, R.J. Davis, an undrafted guard out of the University of North Carolina, was 6-of-11 overall and also scored 17 points.
