Jets rank 27th in offensive weapons (per ESPN)

The New York Jets are entering the 2025 season with a lot of question marks at the skill positions opposite Garrett Wilson. The definition of consistency, Wilson is hoping to see some other weapons emerge. The Jets need a bounce-back season from running back Breece Hall. They also need Josh Reynolds and Mason Taylor to be effective passing-game playmakers.

ESPN recently ranked all 32 skilled position groups in the league. Wide receivers are weighted more heavily than running backs or tight ends in this exercise, but the overall ranking takes the entire group into consideration.

The Jets placed 27th heading into the 2025 season, sixth-worst in the NFL. They dropped five overall spots from last offseason’s placement in this same exercise (No. 22).

Garrett Wilson continues to plug on,” Bill Barnwell wrote. “Justin Fields will become the ninth NFL quarterback to throw passes in Wilson’s direction, and without Davante Adams in the mix, the Jets’ passing attack will go as far as Wilson can take it.”

Barnwell then expresses concern about Hall, who is entering a critical contract season.

The Jets’ other potential star playmaker from the 2022 draft isn’t heading in the right direction,” Barnwell noted. “Breece Hall was able to stay healthy for most of 2024, but he topped 100 rushing yards just once and had more fumbles (six) than rushing touchdowns (five). In a contract year, he will have to fend off Braelon Allen, whose larger frame (6-foot-1, 235 pounds) could be valuable for a team that should build through the run with Fields under center.”

Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand will be tasked with finding solutions. The Jets’ offense won’t be effective if Wilson poses the only threat to opposing defenses. If Justin Fields oversees an explosive offense at quarterback, he’ll need contributions from the likes of Hall, Braelon Allen, Reynolds, and Taylor, too.
