2027 four-star linebacker Cooper Witten is considering some top schools for his college commitment.

Witten, the son of former NFL tight end Jason Witten, has a list of top contenders vying for his recruitment, and the Texas Longhorns are one of them. The Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes, Clemson Tigers, and Georgia Bulldogs join the Longhorns.

Witten spoke to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman about the Longhorns’ interest in him and confirmed that he is going to visit the program soon.

“I really like the defensive staff and the love they have shown since June 15,” said Witten, who told Rivals he’s planning to make his way to the Forty Acres “soon.” Spiegelman writes, via Rivals.

Witten is a four-star recruit and the fourth-best player in Texas, per 247Sports. He’s also the top-ranked linebacker recruit in the nation. If you look at the 247Sports composite rankings, he is listed as a five-star recruit and the No. 12 overall recruit in the country.

This would be a big recruiting win for the Longhorns since Witten is right in their backyard and can potentially be a difference-maker at the collegiate level.

Witten’s dad, Jason, played in the NFL for 17 seasons (2003-20) and spent 16 of them with the Dallas Cowboys. He’s one of the best tight ends ever and finished his career with 1,228 receptions for 13,046 yards and 74 touchdowns. He will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2026.
