Jannik Sinner’s road to the Wimbledon final has been anything but smooth and not just because of the tough opponents he’s faced but also because of an injury scare. During the Round of 16 match against Grigor Dimitrov, Sinner took a nasty slip that left him clutching his right arm in pain.

The next day, he went for an MRI, skipped his practice session and showed up sporting a protective sleeve that had fans holding their breath. Fast forward to now, with a huge win over Novak Djokovic, everyone’s wondering the same thing: is that elbow ready for a showdown with Carlos Alcaraz? Well, Sinner finally decided to clear the air.

In a press conference Friday afternoon, he was asked about his injury, and if he would be able to compete on Sunday against Alcaraz. To this he said, “No issue for Sunday. As I said after playing Ben, there are no excuses. I think we are handling this small problem at the moment very well. I was much more concerned in Ben’s match in the quarters. Today I felt quite good already in the warm up. This morning was good. No concerns.”

Djokovic’s loss here really makes you wonder if that elusive 25th Grand Slam is ever gonna happen for him. He’s been a Wimbledon final regular since 2017 and hadn’t lost in the semis since Federer beat him in 2012, but this time Sinner flipped the script.

The 23-year old looked sharp and fearless, and made Djokovic fight for every point. Even though the seven-time Wimbledon champ tried to rally in the third after Sinner’s medical timeout, the current World No. 1 shut him down fast.

With clutch serving and big-time composure, he buried any chance of a comeback and closed it out strong. Now he faces Alcaraz for the second time in a Grand Slam final in a little over one month this Sunday.
