The Jacksonville Jaguars were back on the practice field on Sunday for their fourth training camp practice, and by all accounts, it was an impressive day for Travis Hunter.
For the second consecutive practice, Hunter found himself on defense playing cornerback after spending the first two practices at wide receiver.
According to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Hunter played 21 snaps at cornerback on Sunday during the 11-on-11 period, and during those reps he forced three pass breakups.
Travis Holmes of Big Cat Country would write in his post-practice takeaways article that two of Hunter’s three pass breakups were “near interceptions.”
John Shipley of Jaguars on SI would call Hunter’s performance a “breakout day.” Shipley took note of Hunter’s closing speed on one pass breakup and the ability to challenge Brian Thomas Jr. on another.

Hunter brings impressive ball skills to the cornerback position, as was on display on Sunday. During his final season at Colorado, on just 41 targets, he forced seven pass breakups and came away with four interceptions, according to PFF.
Most of Hunter’s practice time since joining the team has come at wide receiver, where offensive coordinator Grant Udinski is happy with the progress he has made. But Hunter is also happy to get some added reps at cornerback.
“I enjoyed it,” Hunter said of playing cornerback on Friday, “but I just need to be on the field a lot more so I can learn the defense and continue to do what I need to do.”
