Jaguars shown 'sneaky interest' in Syracuse QB, per ESPN

The Jacksonville Jaguars are among the teams to have shown “sneaky interest” in Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord during the pre-draft process.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano have emptied their NFL draft notebooks, and when discussing the quarterback position, they noted that McCord has worked out for or met with the Saints, Steelers, and Giants.

But beyond those three teams, Fowler and Graziano mentioned the Jaguars and Rams as teams who have shown “sneaky interest” in the quarterback.

“Some teams see him as more of a QB2, but you’d be surprised how many coaches have him rated highly in a class that’s considered weaker and wide open,” Fowler wrote. “He can read a defense, really smart, loves football, studies, can learn all the concepts, can make all of the throws,” a veteran NFL assistant coach told me.”

After spending three seasons at Ohio State, McCord played at Syracuse in 2024 and had a career year. He could complete 66% of his passes and throw for 4,760 yards–the most in college football–at 8.0 yards per attempt. McCord also threw 34 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions, per PFF.

Behind Trevor Lawrence on the Jaguars’ current quarterback depth chart are Nick Mullens and John Wolford. Adding McCord to the mix would provide competition for Wolford for that potential third quarterback spot on the depth chart, while giving him time to develop into a potential future backup when Mullens’ deal is up.
