Ja Morant Disrespected by NBA GMs, Execs After Grizzlies Sweep

The Memphis Grizzlies were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs. Grizzlies All-Star point guard Ja Morant suffered a hip injury in Game 3 and didn’t play in Game 4.

Memphis drafted Morant with the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Morant has made two All-Star teams and one All-NBA team with the Grizzlies. The 25-year-old also won the 2021-22 Most Improved Player of the Year Award.

However, the Grizzlies have won only one postseason series in the Morant era. That came in 2022. Morant has also gotten in trouble with the NBA for showing a gun on IG live twice.

A Murray State product, Morant averaged 23.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists this season in 50 games. While those aren’t numbers to gloss over, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, NBA general managers and execs no longer view Morant as a top-10 player in the league.

“When I’m talking to people around the league, GMs, execs, scouts, I don’t have people telling me that they think Ja is a top-10 player when he’s healthy anymore,” MacMahon said on Monday’s episode of Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective.

The Grizzlies went 30-20 this season when Morant played. They finished the campaign 48-34. Taylor Jenkins was fired after 73 games and replaced by Tuomas Iisalo, who went 4-5.

Morant has career averages of 22.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 7.4 assists. He signed a five-year, $197 million extension with the Grizzlies in 2022. The explosive guard will make $39.4 million next season.
