J.T. Kitna, son of Jon Kitna, enters NCAA transfer portal after Bowling Green coach change

A coaching change at Bowling Green State University has Lakota East graduate J.T. Kitna in the transfer portal after enrolling at the school in January.

Kitna signed to play for the Falcons and head coach Scot Loeffler, who was in charge of the team from 2019 until February, when he stepped down to become the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ohio State great and NFL Pro Bowler Eddie George was hired as head coach for Bowling Green after spending four seasons as head coach at Tennessee State where he went 24-22, including a 9-4 season in 2024 with an FCS playoff appearance.

Kitna, the son of former Bengals quarterback and Lakota East head coach Jon Kitna, was originally committed to play at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Kitna decommitted from UAB the night before his signing day and signed with Bowling Green the next day.

Kitna will have four years of eligibility out of the transfer portal. The signal caller announced an offer from Houston Christian on Thursday morning.

Kitna was first-team All-Greater Miami Conference in 2023 and 2024. He was a third-team All-Ohio selection this past season after going 187-for-316 in 12 games for 2,711 yards, 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Kitna also ran for 203 yards and four rushing scores.

Lakota East finished 8-4 last season, winning the most games in a season for the program since also going 8-4 in 2018. Jon Kitna was named the GMC Coach of the Year.
