In a way too early look ahead to the 2026 offseason, what is one thing that should be on the Indianapolis Colts’ radar at this time?
This was the question that Pro Football Focus‘ Trevor Sikkema set out to answer for every team. When it came to the Colts, not surprisingly, the thing to think about revolved around the quarterback position. Specifically, do the Colts need to address this position once again in 2026?
“Just three seasons after drafting Anthony Richardson at No. 4 overall, the Colts might be back in the quarterback conversation. Richardson has earned poor PFF passing grades of 56.5 and 59.8 over the past two years, but at this point, it’s more about the games he hasn’t played in.
“With Daniel Jones on just a one-year deal — and dealing with his own inconsistencies throughout his career — if Richardson doesn’t work out, we could very well see Indianapolis making another quarterback selection in 2026.”
Obviously, there are a few different scenarios that could play out next offseason depending on what takes place in 2025.
I would imagine the hope internally is that Richardson is able to seize control of the starting job and show major growth this season, allowing the Colts to further build around him in 2026.
On the flip side of that, perhaps it is Daniel Jones who takes control of the starting job and leads the Colts to the playoffs. As we’ve discussed before, with the overall roster that’s been constructed, even somewhat steady quarterback play should have the Colts in the postseason conversation.
In that instance, then Jones could be in line for a new deal.
However, if things go poorly and the Colts miss out on the playoffs again, then changes are incoming. This doesn’t only mean at quarterback, but potentially at GM and head coach as well. The new leadership duo will most certainly want to then bring in their own guy at that position.
In terms of the franchise’s direction moving forward, the Colts are at a fork in the road in 2025.
