Chad Reuter of NFL.com recently ran through an interesting exercise — a seven-round draft of active NFL players with instruction to “win now” for all 32 teams. Reuter used the draft order from the 2025 draft and operated a “snake” draft, giving every team seven total picks.
At its core, Reuter’s idea is an exercise in identifying the NFL’s elite players entering the 2025 season.
How many Packers were picked across seven rounds? Only six, including just one — quarterback Jordan Love — in the first two rounds.
Packers picked
- 1.13: QB Jordan Love (MIA)
- 3.85: RB Josh Jacobs (DEN)
- 4.106: S Xavier McKinney (GB)
- 5.133: OT Zach Tom (LV)
- 5.154: DE Rashan Gary (LAR)
- 7.219: TE Tucker Kraft (BAL)
Former Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander went No. 136. Former Packers running back Aaron Jones went No. 210.
Somewhat surprisingly, linebacker Edgerrin Cooper wasn’t picked. He enjoyed an elite stretch to end his rookie season and could emerge as a truly elite player in Year 2. Also, it’s difficult to imagine Elgton Jenkins or Jayden Reed isn’t one of the NFL’s top 224 players entering 2025.
Packers draft
- 1.23: WR Ja’Marr Chase
- 2.42: QB Cam Ward
- 3.87: DE Abdul Carter
- 4.106: S Xavier McKinney
- 5.151: CB Christian Benford
- 6.170: OT Bernhard Raimann
- 7.215: RB Breece Hall
The Packers got the best wide receiver in the game and two of the top three picks in the 2025 draft, including Ward. In this hypothetical scenario, it’s unlikely the Packers would end up being one of the top teams.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was the top overall pick. A quarterback was picked with each of the first 13 picks, ending with Love at No. 13. Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett was the first non-quarterback selected.
