How much talent do the Commanders possess in those who are under age 25?
Aaron Schatz of ESPN wrote a story ranking all 32 NFL teams based on that very metric (talent under age 25). Washington fans will be happy to know the Commanders, though not at the very top, did rank very high.
The criteria used by Schatz included those under age 25 and their number of starts, number of snaps, quality of play, value and length of player contracts, relative importance of positions (so Jayden Daniels at quarterback is huge), draft value added in 2025 draft, expected starters and key reserves, significant injuries or suspensions for 2025.
The Commanders were ranked No. 18 going into the 2024 season. Obviously, that was before anyone knew that Jayden Daniels was going to have one of the best rookie quarterback seasons of all time. So this year, Schatz has the Commanders ranked third in this metric, headed into the 2025 season.
Jayden Daniels was the Commanders’ leading rusher with 891 yards, averaging 6.0 a carry. Then he ranked fourth in the NFL in QBR (70.6), tied for 10th in touchdowns (25) and threw for 3,568 yards.
Schatz also looks for productive years from these players who are under age 25: CB Mike Sainristil, DT Jer’Zhan Newton, S Quan Martin, G Brandon Coleman, Daniels, TE Ben Sinnott, WR Luke McCaffrey, OT Josh Conerly Jr.
Here is how he ranks the top ten in the NFL:
- 1- Houston Texans
- 2- Seattle Seahawks
- 3- Washington Commanders
- 4- New York Giants
- 5- Chicago Bears
- 6- Detroit Lions
- 7- New England Patriots
- 8- Jacksonville Jaguars
- 9- Tennessee Titans
- 10- Los Angeles Chargers
