H.S. Girls Basketball: Lake-Lehman's Wilson leads Red team to win

Apr. 5—PLAINS TWP. — The George P. Moses Girls Basketball Senior All-Star Classic started Friday night with Wyoming Seminary’s Avery Luskic on the court wearing a walking boot.

The opening tap was purposely directed to Luksic under the basket where she scored the Red team’s first two points and departed.

The Red team then scored over 100 more in traditional fashion, routing the White team 104-50 at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

Lake-Lehman’s Ella Wilson led the Red with 33 points, with 24 coming after halftime. She added a game-high 10 rebounds and was named her team’s MVP.

“It was so much fun,” said Wilson, who will play at Division II Mercy University next season. “I love this so much.”

Pittston Area’s Daniella Ranieli scored 15 for the Red. Tunkhannock teammates Lourianna Alston and Erin Van Ness added 11 each. Alston finished a rebound shy of a double-double.

Holy Redeemer’s Brooke Kroptavich was selected the White MVP after scoring six points and grabbing nine rebounds. Despite the final score, she enjoyed the experience of playing with different players.

“Our team was really fun. I think we clicked really well,” said Kroptavich, who will play at Division III Catholic University. “Even though it wasn’t a good scoring game, I think we all had fun.”

Crestwood’s Kendall Petrosky and Wilkes-Barre Area’s Diamond Thornton each had eight points for the White.

Wilson defeated Wyoming Valley West’s Anna Sierra 9-7 in the 3-point shooting contest at halftime. Otherwise, the on-court action was lopsided.

The Red scored the game’s first six points and then used a 13-0 run to steadily pull away. Ranieli and Wyoming Valley West’s Alyvia McLaughlin opened it with 3-pointers and Van Ness ended with with another basket behind the arc.

Wyoming Area’s Kendall Day and Hanover Area’s Flora Tirado closed the first quarter to get the White within 24-14. The White, though, never cut the deficit under 10 the rest of the way.

Wilson took control in the third quarter with 13 points. She finished off with a 13-point fourth quarter.

The Red reached the century mark with 43 seconds left on a basket by Anya Richet of Wyoming Valley West.

“When we were at 83,” Wilson said. “When we were at 83 we said we were going to get to 100.”
