Apr. 21—SPICER — Kennedy Mara took home medalist honors with an 82 to lead the Willmar girls golf team to victory in the large New London-Spicer Invitational at Little Crow Country Club.
Mara’s effort helped the Cardinals tally a 351, which beat NLS’ 384 and Annandale’s 403. Community Christian School was fourth (411) and Litchfield fifth (413) to round out the top 5.
Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City’s Brooke Brekke placed second and one shot behind Mara with an 83. The Wildcats’ Rylie Harrier took third at 86 and Willmar’s Lucia Martin Rodriguez tied Glencoe-Silver Lake’s Ava Stuewe for fourth with matching 87s.
Willmar had two more golfers in the top 10, which featured another pair of area golfers. Raelynn Means earned a sixth place finish (88) and Sadie Yungerberg was eighth (94).
New London-Spicer’s Evangeline Dalton shot a 91 to take seventh and earn her spot in the top 10, as did Community Christian School’s Margo Klaassen with a 95 to tie for ninth.
Eleven schools entered complete varsity teams.
The home team won its invitational at Sartell’s Blackberry Ridge Golf Club.
Sartell recorded a meet-low 294 on Thursday. Alexandria was second at 296 and Detroit Lakes and Brainerd both finished with 300s to tie for third. Willmar placed fifth at 331.
Carson Andel led the way for the Sabres, carding a two-under-par 70. Willmar’s Aden Jacobson and Brainerd’s Brady Oseland tied for second with matching even-par 72s.
Willmar competes in a CLC meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Geneva Golf Course in Alexandria.
Lakeview’s Carson Boe finished with an eight-under-par 64 to earn medalist honors as Dawson-Boyd took home the team title at Countryside Golf Club in Minneota.
Dawson-Boyd, which had four golfers finish in the top 10, secured a meet-low 319. Lac qui Parle Valley and Lakeview were just shy of the Blackjacks with tying scores of 321. Yellow Medicine East came in sixth with a 370 and MACCRAY placed eighth at 398.
Area golfers in the top five featured Lac qui Parle Valley’s Carson Besonen, who shot an even-par 72 to take second place, Renville County West’s Ryan Schrupp, who carded a 74 to finish in third, Dawson-Boyd’s Drew Hjelmeland, who earned fourth behind a 76, and the Blackjacks’ Evan Mork, who shot a 79 to tie for fifth with Canby’s Jack Abrahamson.
The Blackjacks stormed past Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at Cottonwood Country Club.
Dawson-Boyd saw four of its golfers finish in the top five as it totaled a 338 to beat RTR’s 393.
Lindsey Lund earned medalist honors for the Blackjacks, carding a 77. Her teammates Kylar Hjelmeland and Alyssa Swedzinski followed suit with an 83 and 85 to place second and third.
Claire Stratmoen rounded out Dawson-Boyd’s top four scorers with a 91 to take fifth place.
