Georgia Predicted to Deal Recruiting Blow to Struggling SEC Program originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Auburn Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs are on two different trajectories entering 2025.
For starters, Auburn has not competed for a national title since 2013, when the Tigers lost to the Florida State Seminoles 34-31. Georgia’s last national title was in 2022 after beating the TCU Horned Frogs 65-7.
Things got worse for Auburn on Wednesday, as it was predicted to lose the race for four-star safety Tyriq Green to Georgia. On3 Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, Chad Simmons, Adam Gorney and Sam Spiegelman all had the Bulldogs landing Green.
Georgia has the advantage already with Green, as he is a native of Buford, Georgia.
Green is the No. 13 safety in the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2026 class.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine also heavily favors the Bulldogs. Georgia is the frontrunner, with a 93.5% chance to land the prospect. Auburn is in second at 2.5%, followed by the Miami Hurricanes at 1.3%.
If Kirby Smart does earn a commitment from Green, it would not be the first time Georgia has hurt Auburn in recruiting. The Bulldogs already flipped longtime Auburn commit Shadarius Toodle in June.
Georgia is not the only SEC team to steal a commit from Auburn, either. The Kentucky Wildcats flipped four-star receiver Denairius Gray from the Tigers on July 1.
Auburn’s 2026 class currently ranks 71st on On3 Sports and is highlighted by four-star edge rusher Hezekiah Harris, four-star athlete Peyton Falzone and three-star linebacker Adam Balougun-Ali.
The Tigers face the Baylor Bears in their season opener on August 29. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
