The Georgia Bulldogs were extremely aggressive in the spring transfer portal, and it worked out for them tremendously. According to On3, they were considered one of the biggest winners of the spring transfer portal window.
Before the spring transfer portal opened up, Georgia had a lot of holes to fill, with the biggest one being the front seven. Georgia had to replace 32 of the 37 sacks the Bulldogs produced last year. Six front-seven players left for the 2025 NFL draft and four transferred to different schools.
Knowing this, Georgia landed two of the biggest names on the transfer portal on defense: Army edge Elo Modozie, and Miami defensive tackle Joshua Horton.
Modozie is a superb run defender with a great motor. His motor has helped him be a special teams ace. He blocked a punt and a field goal at various points in his Army tenure. He struggles with pad level in pass-rush downs due to raising his head and chest, but when he leans down, his speed and energy is enough to get a pressure.
Horton is a thumping defensive tackle that also produces against the run. Over the last two seasons, Horton has played in eight games, recording four total tackles and half a sack. He battled injuries in 2024. However, Horton will get the chance to be a rotational defensive tackle piece and potentially even a starter on Georgia’s defensive line.
Georgia also went to the transfer portal to earn more running back depth, with running Trevor Etienne getting selected in the draft by the Carolina Panthers. The Bulldogs landed Illinois fourth-year running back Josh McCray, who was Illinois’ leading rusher last year. He is a bruising running back who could complement nicely with Nate Frazier’s style of running.
Lastly, Georgia got UCF offensive tackle Waltclaire Flynn Jr. to round out their offensive line depth. Flynn earned MaxPreps All-America honors all four years at Grayson High School (Georgia), which included being named a second team All-American in 2023. He helped the Rams win 11 games in his senior season and reach the GHSA Class 7A playoff semifinals.
