For the second time in his college career, Jamier Johnson is joining a new program. The former Longhorn committed to the UCLA Bruins on Tuesday after two years with Indiana. He will now get to play for the team he grew up watching.
Johnson began his college career with the Longhorns in 2021. Out of high school, 247Sports ranked him the 25th-best cornerback in his class and the 26th-best player from California. They also projected him to be a future high-round NFL Draft pick. Before committing to the Longhorns, Johnson received offers from Oregon, Michigan, Ohio State, Arizona State, Florida, USC, Rutgers, and Colorado.
He showed flashes of becoming a very productive player at Texas but could not carve out a starting role. In two years as a Longhorn, Johnson appeared in 17 games and made one start. In his limited playing time, the California native recorded seven tackles and one pass breakup. He then left for Indiana, where he showcased his skills.

After battling injuries, Johnson finally became the player he was expected to be last year. He recorded a career-high 35 total tackles and snagged his first career interception against Nebraska in October. His play for the Hoosiers helped increase his stock when he entered the transfer portal.
In Johnson, the Bruins are getting a talented veteran with plenty to prove. He will be hungry to build on his success and show that his 2024 campaign was no fluke. Last year, UCLA finished with a 5-7 overall record and has been busy adding to its roster.
