Former Rams DT Ndamukong Suh announces retirement from NFL with heartfelt message

After 13 seasons in the NFL, Ndamukong Suh has officially announced his retirement. He played for five different teams during his career, including a one-year stint with the Los Angeles Rams in 2018.

That season, he helped the Rams reach Super Bowl LIII, though they came up short in the big game against the New England Patriots. Suh played and started all 16 games that season, recording 4.5 sacks, 59 tackles and 19 quarterback hits.

In addition to his one season in L.A., Suh also played five years with the Detroit Lions, three with the Miami Dolphins, three with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and one with the Philadelphia Eagles. He won a Super Bowl with the Buccaneers in 2020, his second Super Bowl appearance in the NFL.

To announce his retirement, Suh shared a heartfelt message on social media, paying tribute to his late father, who he lost exactly one year ago today. It was his dad who told Suh to “let football go” before he passed, telling Ndamukong, “You’ve done everything you set out to do.”

Suh says his next chapter will be about giving back by “helping others build wealth, lead with intention, and create lasting freedom.”

In his career, Suh made the Pro Bowl five times, was a three-time All-Pro, won AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020 and had 71.5 total sacks to go with 600 tackles.

He was one of the best defenders of his generation, entering the league as the second overall pick by the Detroit Lions in 2020.
