Former Nets star Kevin Durant tells Knicks fan he's a "Net for life"

The Brooklyn Nets have a huge offseason ahead of them with the 2025 NBA Draft beginning on Wednesday along with free-agency getting underway following the conclusion of the 2025 NBA Finals. Brooklyn has plenty of areas they have to address before they are able to think about competing for a championship, but in the meantime, one of their former players maintain their allegiance to the organization.

“I’m a Net for life baby,” Houston Rockets superstar Kevin Durant said during an appearance at Fanatics Fest in NYC over the weekend. According to videos posted on social media, Durant was on stage as part of an interview, but he decided to make it clear that he made the right choice by joining the Nets when he was a free-agent a few years ago.

After the 2018-19 season ended with him suffering an Achilles injury in the NBA Finals with the Golden State Warriors, Durant signed with Brooklyn in July of 2019 despite having to miss the entire 2019-20 campaign. Part of the reason that Durant signed with the Nets is because of his close friendship with Kyrie Irving, who also signed with the team in free-agency.

Part of Durant’s retort to the Knicks fan is the fact that most expected stars like Durant and Irving to come to New York City to play for New York given the allure of playing home games at Madison Square Garden. To Durant’s credit, he has always maintained that playing with the Nets was a positive career move for him and he seems to love the time he spent with the organization.

Sunday was also a big day for Durant outside of his appearance at Fanatics Fest as he was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets in a blockbuster move hours before Game 7 of the Finals. With the Suns coming off a 36-46 record in the 2024-25 season, Durant is heading to another interesting young team as he seeks to compete for a title while he can still be one of the best players in the league.
