Former Falcons QB can't believe this throw by Michael Penix Jr.

It’s been a few years since Kurt Benkert played for the Atlanta Falcons, but the former NFL quarterback-turned Twitch streamer has continued to follow the team closely since being released in 2021. Benkert hasn’t been shy regarding his feelings toward second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

Going back to the 2024 draft, Benkert has consistently praised Penix’s NFL ability. Recently, he even predicted a 5,000-yard season for the former Washington standout in 2025. On Wednesday, Atlanta held its first training camp scrimmage and Penix’s arm strength was on full display.

While the Falcons QB made several highlight-worthy throws on the day, a few of his deep passes went viral. Penix aired one out to Drake London that was perfectly placed just out of cornerback A.J. Terrell’s reach for the completion.

“Get TF out of here,” Benkert tweeted in reaction to Penix’s completion to London.

The hype surrounding the former top-10 pick is growing as he continues to flash his elite arm in training camp. Penix’s knack for big plays and pushing the ball down the field has Falcons fans salivating over what the offense could look like this season.

The Falcons will play their first preseason game on Friday night against the Detroit Lions. Unfortunately for fans attending the game, Penix won’t be suiting up. According to head coach Raheem Morris, neither Penix nor Kirk Cousins will play on Friday.

However, fans will get their first look at rookies Jalon Walker, James Pearce Jr., Xavier Watts, Billy Bowman and Jack Nelson in game action. Friday’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. ET inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Check out the team’s updated 90-man roster and latest depth chart entering preseason Week 1.
