Miami Gardens, Fla. — South Florida is one of the richest soils when it comes to high school football talent, and many are at smaller programs. Rivals industry 2027 defensive back Trezavant Boyd is one of the gems who plays for a less renowned school in the area, Mater Academy, but the four-star corner plays big and big-time schools have recognized his potential.
“Recruiting has been going great so far,” Boyd said at the Miami Dolphins High School Football Media Day at Hard Rock Stadium. “All of my offers and even the offers that I don’t have have been reaching out.”
Florida State, Georgia, Miami, and UCF are the schools showing Boyd the most attention in his recruiting process, with the three from Florida standing out. All of the mentioned schools are hoping to have Boyd on campus for a game-day visit this season, and the Hurricanes expect the local talent to attend the season opener versus Notre Dame.
Miami
Playing for the hometown Hurricanes is described as a dream come true for every local prospect.
“My relationship is great with the staff right now,” Boyd said of Miami. “Me staying home, that’s every kid’s dream. Stay home at the crib. Put on for the crib. Go down as a legend.”
Miami defensive backs coach Zac Etheridge and other members of the recruiting staff are all establishing a strong relationship with Boyd.
“The cornerbacks coach has been showing a lot of love. Even [Terry] Jefferson has been showing a lot of love. He’s from down here, so he’s been showing a lot of love, too. The recruiters have shown a lot of love, Coach Joe Brown and Frank Tucker.”
UCF
Over at UCF, it’s the son of his head coach, Tim “Ice” Harris, who has established a strong relationship.
“At UCF, it’s coach Brandon [Harris]. He saw my talent in my freshman year, and he offered me. At the end of my tenth-grade year, he’s been showing a lot of love.”
Florida State
Boyd made a recent visit to Florida State for a camp, and since then, the relationship with the Seminoles has strengthened tremendously.
“Mike Norvell, he’s a real coach, I’ll say that for sure. I went up there, I put on a show. Ever since, they love me up there. I feel like it’s home up there. I feel like it’s home already, I’m not going to lie.”
Boyd and Mater Academy started the season with a comfortable 34-12 win over Somerset Academy and will look to continue the momentum against Doral Academy Thursday night.
