Fever’s Sophie Cunningham Captures Attention With Actions During Kelsey Mitchell Interview originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever are back to adjusting to playing without star guard Caitlin Clark these days, as Clark has followed her hamstring injury up now with a groin injury that coach Stephanie White says is, “day-to-day.”
This time around, the absence is, perhaps, a bit less jarring. The Fever lost to the Sparks this week at home in the first absence of this second Clark injury, but followed it up by holding off the Wings with a 94-86 decision in Dallas on Friday night. The win moves Indiana back to .500 and puts them at 3-4 in games that Clark has missed.
No doubt who the leader was in this one, either: Kelsey Mitchell. She logged an 11-for-16 night from the field for a game-high 32 points, with seven assists and three rebounds.
But Mitchell was drawing a crowd even before the game began, as she was interviewed on the pregame show before the Ion broadcast began. Wearing headphones as players behind her warmed up, top Fever reserve Sophie Cunningham sneaked into the frame and began making eyes at the camera on the national broadcast as Mitchell discussed the very serious matters of defending and getting into transition.

Cunningham put her head on MItchell’s shoulder and asked, “What are we talking about?” Mitchell tried to hold it together.
“Sophie Cunningham decided to make a surprise appearance during Kelsey Mitchell’s interview,” the WNBA on Ion account noted.
One fan joked, “The most dangerous place in the world is anywhere between Sophie Cunningham and a camera.”
Not everyone was amused, including, perhaps, Mitchell.
One viewer asked, “Is it just me or did Mitchell seem a little upset that she did that??”
“She always seeking attention like damn,” another noted.
“She’s so annoying smh,” added another, meme and all.
