Fever Troll Sky After Second Blowout Victory of Season, This Time Without Caitlin Clark

Fever Troll Sky After Second Blowout Victory of Season, This Time Without Caitlin Clark originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Indiana Fever moved to 4-4 on the season with a win over the Chicago Sky on Saturday, June 7, and also brought their record to 2-2 since Caitlin Clark went down with a quad strain against the New York Liberty more than two weeks ago.

Indiana opened the regular season by hosting Chicago at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on May 17. The Fever routed the Sky by a score of 93-58 in that contest, as Clark led the way with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, four blocks and two steals.

The contest was a bit closer on Saturday without Clark, though the Fever still routed the Sky at the United Center, winning by a score of 79-52.

It was Kelsey Mitchell who ran out front for Indiana in Clark’s absence, scoring 17 points, grabbing five rebounds, dishing for two assists and recording one steal. Four Fever players scored in double-digits in what was a resounding road victory for Indiana.

Following the contest, the Fever’s official X account had a little bit of fun at the Sky’s expense via the use of wordplay in a post celebrating the victory and also trolling their opponents.

“wINDY city vibes 😏,” the team wrote

The Fever have a bit more swag and confidence than they did last season during Clark’s rookie campaign. Indiana isn’t off to a blistering start at .500 roughly 18% of the way through the regular season, but a big boost may be on the nearing horizon.

Clark’s return could come as early Tuesday against the Atlanta Dream, she told reporters late last week. At full strength, the Fever figure to be one of the tougher opponents in the WNBA given the increased experience of their young core and the improvements made to the roster during the offseason.
