Ex-Rams second-round RB signs with Saints

Cam Akers will join this third team in three years after the former Los Angeles Rams second-round pick signed with the New Orleans Saints this week, according to The Athletic‘s Dianna Russini.

Akers began his career with the Rams in 2020, rushing 360 times for 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns in 30 games. He missed the entire 2021 season after Akers tore his Achilles before the season.

The Rams traded Akers to the Minnesota Vikings after two games in 2023 for unknown reasons, giving way to Kyren Williams taking over the starting role. Williams went on to rush for 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns that season.

Akers, meanwhile, sustained another Achilles injury in Week 9 and missed the rest of the year for Minnesota.

He started the 2024 season with the Houston Texans before being traded back to the Vikings before Week 7.

For his career, Akers has rushed 502 times for 2,025 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Now, he’ll join a crowded Saints backfield with Alvin Kamara, former 2020 first-round running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Kendre Miller, and 2025 sixth-round pick Devin Neal.
