Shortly after retiring from playing on the hardwood in 2021, Jared Dudley took up an assistant coaching position with the Dallas Mavericks, where he has been ever since.
That was until recently, when he took up an assistant coaching job with the Denver Nuggets and their new head David Adelman.
Dudley joining the Nuggets will give him a new range of players to work with, including three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, who has established himself as one of the most versatile centers in the history of the league over the past decade.
He will not be the only former Mav on the Denver coaching staff, as former Dallas point guard J.J. Barea is also on staff with the 2023 NBA champions.
Friday afternoon, the former NBA champion took to X to express his gratitude to the Mavericks organization for his time with the team.
“Thankful for Coach Kidd and Nico for giving me the opportunity to go from a player to a front bench coach! Excited for my next chapter with Coach Adelman and the Denver Nuggets! Let’s get it!”
Dudley’s work with Mavs head coach Jason Kidd goes before he joined the Dallas coaching staff, as he was a player on the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers championship-winning team, which Kidd was an assistant for at the time. Kidd took Dudley with him to Dallas upon taking the Dallas job, and helped Dudley climb the ranks in the NBA coaching world.
