Ex-Florida WR Drops Truth Bomb on Why DJ Lagway Keeps Getting Injured

Ex-Florida WR Drops Truth Bomb on Why DJ Lagway Keeps Getting Injured originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Florida quarterback DJ Lagway spent all of the team’s spring practices off to the side, taking mental reps and working on recovery for a lower-body injury, and a shoulder injury that kept him from throwing.

With many expecting the Gators to be a College Football Playoff contender in 2025, Lagway’s health is currently the biggest concern. As of Monday, the minds of fans weren’t eased by any means, as it was reported that Lagway suffered a calf injury that has him needing a walking boot.

While Lagway is a freak athlete who stands in at 6-foot-3, 241 pounds, former Florida receiver, Jacob Copeland took to X to reveal that the program’s star quarterback is doing too much in the weight room.

“Gotta slow him down in that weight room,” Copeland wrote. “That’s where them boys injuries come from!”

Who Starts If Lagway Can’t Play?

While there is a month until the season starts, the Gators begin fall camp this week. So, if Lagway needs more time to rest and recover, the Gators have a handful of veteran quarterbacks to turn to.

Former blue-chip quarterback Harrison Bailey, who spent time at Tennessee, UNLV and Louisville, seems in line if Lagway cannot go. Former Yale transfer and walk-on Aidan Warner started one game after Lagway went down with an injury last season, and Colorado State transfer Clay Millen started 11 games in Fort Collins before joining the program last year.

Florida opens the year against LIU, which would allow Lagway to rest up if needed, but the Gators clearly need to find a solution for his frequent injuries.
