The 8-player field for the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby on July 14 is set, with the Minnesota Twins‘ Byron Buxton, Washington Nationals‘ James Wood, Seattle Mariners‘ Cal Raleigh, Atlanta Braves‘ Ronald Acuna Jr., Pittsburgh Pirates‘ Oneil Cruz, Tampa Bay Rays‘ Junior Caminero, the Athletics’ Brent Rooker and the New York Yankees‘ Jazz Chisholm Jr. confirmed for the event at Truist Park in Atlanta.
One notable player not among the field?
The Arizona Diamondbacks‘ Eugenio Suarez, who is tied for fourth in the league with 29 home runs.
Raleigh (36) leads the majors in home runs, followed by the New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge (34) and the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Shohei Ohtani (31).
Judge and Ohtani didn’t want to participate in the All-Star game, leaving Suarez with the second-highest amount of home runs among potential participants in the event, tied with the Philadelphia Phillies‘ Kyle Schwarber, who also said he didn’t want to compete.
But Suarez had expressed interest in competing in the home run derby, if he was asked.
Where Eugenio Suarez ranks in MLB home runs compared to rest of MLB Home Run Derby field
“I’m not going to tell everybody that I want to do it; I would prefer they ask me for it,” Suarez said. “I’m not the guy who is going to push for it. It’s OK if I’m not participating. Being in the All-Star Game, for me, already means a lot.”
Buxton has 20 home runs on the season, while Wood has 24, Caminero has 23, Chisolm has 17, Cruz has 16 and Rooker has 19. Acuna Jr. has 11 home runs in limited action.
Social media slammed Eugenio Suarez’s 2025 MLB Home Run Derby snub:
Some on social media blasted MLB for not putting Suarez in the home run derby.
Enrages me that @MLB didn’t invite Eugenio Suarez.
• Sits fourth in the league in homers (29).
• Hit FOUR home runs in ONE game.
• Expressed his desire to compete in it, with the support of his manager.
• It’s been 15 seasons since a Diamondback competed.Complete joke. 🤡 https://t.co/etYBuQyScm
