Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts discusses whether he is the face of the NFL

Jalen Hurts, the Super Bowl MVP, stated in a sit-down with Men’s Health that he has no desire to be the face of the NFL, despite clearly embodying that role.

Before returning to the NovaCare Complex for the offseason workout program, Clover Hope of Men’s Health sat down with Hurts in a wide-ranging interview about his diet, love for winning, and whether he’s the face of the league. The NFL loves Hurts, he’ll be the flag football ambassador in 2028, and he’s the face of Jordan Brand, but the Eagles quarterback is saying no to carrying the crown despite embodying everything the league wants in its King.

Hurts has endorsements, but his visibility is not as high as Patrick Mahomes’s or Travis Kelce’s. He’s a private guy who seems to have no desire to lean into memes about his name or do goofy insurance ads. When I ask Hurts if he’s interested in being the face of the NFL, he says, “Hmm.” Then a definitive “No.” But when you’re the MVP of the Super Bowl, you are the face of the NFL. For a Black quarterback, of course, the question is even more soul-searching, rubbing up against the all-American quarterback ideal. Hurts knows. “You hear people talk about Doug Williams, Warren Moon, and Randall Cunningham and their tenures quarterbacking in the NFL, and those are all opportunities to learn from. It’s history,” he says diplomatically.

Hurts, crowned Super Bowl LIX MVP, became just the second quarterback in Eagles history to deliver a Super Bowl to the City of Philadelphia, joining Nick Foles (Super Bowl LII MVP). According to Elias Sports, Hurts is only the seventh NFL quarterback to appear in multiple Super Bowls and win a championship in their first five seasons. The other quarterbacks who did so are Troy Aikman, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Ben Roethlisberger, Kurt Warner, and Russell Wilson. He’ll enter 2025 with renewed confidence and weapons at every key position.
