Eagles Open To New Game Plan Idea For Emerging Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
In 2024, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell put forth one of the more impressive rookie seasons in recent memory.
He may not have won an All-Pro like Sauce Gardner once did, but Mitchell was a key member in Philadelphia’s run to Super Bowl LIX. The Toledo product partnered with the aging veteran Darius Slay to become one of the best secondaries in the game.
With Slay now in Pittsburgh, the Eagles are hoping Mitchell can be the kind of lockdown DB they drafted him to be. In order for that to happen, though, the 24-year-old will need to do the one thing that the best corners in the game can do.

Mitchell will need to show he can play all over the field to be that kind of elite player. That is something that Eagles and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is trying to see if he can accomplish.
“If we ever get to the point where we want to match (Mitchell) on his particular receiver, he’s got to know how to play both sides if we want to play him at left or versus right, so we’ll figure that out on a weekly basis,” Fangio said on Thursday.
Mitchell did not record an interception during the regular season, but was still graded as one of the elite players at his position. Pro Football Focus gave Mitchell a grade of 72.
With top receivers in his division like CeeDee Lamb, Malik Nabers, and Terry McLaurin, Mitchell will be tasked to line up against some of the best pass catchers in football.
Time will tell if Mitchell can reach that level of elite play in 2025 by shadowing those stars wherever they go … thus helping achieve stardom in his own right.
