Eagles’ Jalen Hurts Issues ‘Cowards’ Quote of The Week for NFL Training Camps originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Temperatures may have reached the 90s on Tuesday, but the humidity made it feel like triple digits as the Philadelphia Eagles suited up in full pads for the first time during their 2025 training camp. Despite the scorching conditions at the NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia, the defending Super Bowl champions didn’t let the heat slow them down.
The Eagles pushed through a full two-hour practice in their first padded session of camp. For Jalen Hurts, the challenging conditions served as a valuable test of his team’s character.
“I think fatigue makes cowards of us all,” Hurts said following practice. “These last two days have been very challenging from a heat standpoint, and so everybody collectively as a group has continued to push through those things. Control what you can. I think this is a good test and measure of where we are right now and where we desire to go.”
The Super Bowl MVP’s philosophy on perseverance through adverse conditions is nothing new. Weather has never been a concern for Hurts, who first declared in an Oct. 4, 2022, postgame speech against the Jaguars, “Rain, sleet, or snow, Eagles train to go.” He memorably repeated that phrase after the team’s iconic snow playoff victory against the Rams, and that mindset has become emblematic of his leadership style and the team’s resilient identity.
The session included extensive red-zone work and full-contact drills, with coaches emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus and execution despite the conditions. Rather than scale back the intensity, the coaching staff used the weather as an opportunity to test the team’s mental and physical toughness.
“These are the moments that reveal who you really are,” Hurts continued. “When things get difficult, when conditions aren’t perfect, that’s when your true character shows. We’re not looking for perfect conditions—we’re preparing to be great regardless of the circumstances.”
Players stayed hydrated and took necessary precautions, but there was no reduction in the intensity or competitiveness of what was described as a “heavy red-zone practice.” Hurts sees these challenging training camp sessions as crucial building blocks for the season ahead, as the Eagles continue to build their mental toughness that will be essential when the stakes are highest during the regular season and playoffs.
