Drew Sanders update: Broncos LB getting MRI after being carted off field

Denver Broncos inside linebacker Drew Sanders was carted off the field at training camp on Saturday, according to media members attending practice. The linebacker appeared to have suffered some kind of leg injury.

“We don’t have any update,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said after practice. “We don’t have any information yet, so we’ll give it to you [when we have it]. It’s not his Achilles, but I want to wait and see once the doctors do the MRI.”

The good news is that Sanders did not reinjure his Achilles. The 24-year-old linebacker tore his Achilles’ last spring and spent most of the 2024 season working his way back from that injury. We’ll know more about the severity of this latest injury after the linebacker undergoes more testing.

Sanders, a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft out of Arkansas, has totaled 32 tackles and one sack in 21 games (four starts) in Denver, including four appearances late last season. The Broncos are off Sunday, so we might not get an update on Sanders until Payton speaks again Monday.
