Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders is undergoing imaging to determine the severity of his injury, according to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson.
While it could be a routine checkup for Sanders (as noted by Jackson), the need for a closer look is a bit concerning in itself.
Sanders, 29, hasn’t missed a game in his NFL career, but was an unexpected scratch Saturday night in a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his place, punter Jake Bailey handled kickoff duties and even tried a 51-yard field goal that he missed.
After the game, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel seemed unconcerned about the injury.
“It was something that he doesn’t appear concerned for Week 1,” McDaniel said. “He was telling me that he was going to kick extra points and I was like we need the 2-point conversion work. We’ll see when he comes in, but he wasn’t overly concerned for Week 1.”
Sanders made 27 consecutive field goals to end the 2024 season.
