Dodgers Fans Upset Over Mookie Betts News Before Yankees Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts has had a slow start to the 2025 season. A league MVP and three-time World Series champion, Betts owns an .891 OPS for his career that ranks ninth among active hitters. That OPS has been on the decline this season, as Betts currently owns a career-worst .742 mark.
Battling an illness at the beginning of the season, Betts has also needed to place additional focus on the defensive end, as the Dodgers have primarily had him play shortstop this season after bouncing around the field in 2024.
On Friday, Betts was notably absent from LA’s lineup against the New York Yankees.
Playing in the Dodgers’ last game, which was a loss to the Cleveland Guardians, Betts went 0-for-3 with a walk. When he wasn’t in Friday’s lineup, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was asked by reporters for an update.
“Dave Roberts told reporters that Mookie Betts stubbed his toe at home on Wednesday night and will be getting x-rays after he was in too much discomfort to play tonight,” FOX Sports MLB posted on X.
Fans were understandably upset with this news.

“Dodgers legit might be cursed,” said one.
“Dodgers love being on the IL,” said another.
“Mookie Betts out with a foot issue and possibly needing x-rays?! That’s a huge blow!” added one.
“MY POOKIE MOOKIE BEAR NOO,” said another.
“So sad,” one added.
The Dodgers enter play on Friday with a 34-22 record that sits atop the National League West. New York is also a division leader, sitting atop the American League East with a 35-20 record. These two teams met in the World Series Last season, with the Dodgers winning in five games.
