Desmond Bane trade: Full details of the blockbuster move between the Grizzlies and Magic

The Memphis Grizzlies have reportedly agreed to trade Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for a package of players and draft picks, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

Orlando acquired Bane from Memphis for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks and one first-round pick swap. The reported transaction represents the first blockbuster trade of the offseason.

Memphis reportedly acquired the No. 16 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, a 2026 first-round pick via the Phoenix Suns, a 2028 first-round pick and a 2030 first-round pick. The pick swap is lightly protected in 2029.

Magic president Jeff Weltman said last month that the team would be transitioning into a “win-now” mindset after two consecutive first-round playoff exits. While the team ranked second in defensive rating, it was 27th in offense and last in 3-point percentage (31.8) and 3s per game (11.2).

Bane, who is under contract through the 2028-29 season, provides the Magic with a bona fide floor spacer, boasting a career 41% shooting percentage from 3-point range. He is one of three players with at least 800 3s on 40% shooting since entering the league in 2020, according to ESPN.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies acquire a defensive-minded veteran in Caldwell-Pope and additional guard depth in Anthony, while restocking their future draft assets. They will now have the chance to draft a player in the first round this year after previously dealing their pick to Washington.
