Derek Carr chimes in on Shedeur Sanders' final Browns preseason game

Derek Carr had some thoughts on how the Cleveland Browns used rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders in their final preseason game over the weekend, and the former New Orleans Saints QB wasn’t exactly afraid to share them.

He wasn’t criticizing the quarterback himself or really discounting Sanders at all, but rather was questioning the Browns’ decision to not let him show his abilities in a two-minute drill situation.

“I need to understand why we don’t get to see @ShedeurSanders run this 2 minute drill?” Carr wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Wouldn’t you want to see your young QB operate in this situation? Get him more reps for the future? I didn’t see the whole game so maybe he already showed enough? Help me understand this…”

Carr wasn’t alone in this ideology, with multiple Browns fans also questioning why Tyler Huntley, a training camp body who didn’t make the team at all, was on the field instead. It would have been nothing but advantageous to allow Sanders to see more action on the field with the regular season just on the horizon.

In the replies section of the social media post, some publicly agreed with Carr, while others fully disregarded the post and instead expressed their disdain for what they deemed to be poor performance out of the retired quarterback over his own NFL career.

It will be interesting to see how Sanders performs, and whether he sees the field, when the Browns hit the field for their regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7. Cleveland has already named Joe Flacco their Week 1 starter with Sanders, rookie draft pick Dillon Gabriel, and veteran journeyman Kenny Pickett behind him.
