Long before Deion Sanders was the polarizing head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, he was a dynamic two-sport athlete in baseball and football.

The Hall of Fame corner, who is regarded as one of the best players ever to set foot on the gridiron, was also able to play in the MLB at a high level. Still to this day, he is the only athlete ever to play in both the Super Bowl and the World Series, winning two titles in football.

Aside from being one of the most dominant athletes of all time, he is also one of the most popular. Although his larger-than-life personality played a role in this, his popularity also stems from his impact on the sports fashion industry.

His first signature sneaker, the Nike Air Diamond Turf, were released in 1993. With his return to the limelight since taking over at Colorado before the 2023 season, the popularity of his shoes seems to be at an all-time high.

On Friday, Sanders took to Instagram to share the latest colorway of his Nike Air DT Proto ‘92. The sleek-looking shoes, which are called “Braves,” commemorate his legendary October 11 slate that saw him suit up for the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves.

“I told you ‘We were coming’!,” wrote Sanders.

That iconic day in sports saw Sanders return two kicks and a punt, while catching a pass for nine yards in a loss against the Dan Marino-led Miami Dolphins. Following the loss, Sanders then hopped on a flight from Miami to Pittsburgh, where he joined the Braves for Game 5 of the 1992 NLCS against the Pirates.

According to Nice Kicks, 1,000 pairs will be dropping exclusively in Atlanta during the MLB’s All-Star Weekend.

As for what Sanders is up to now, he has been dealing with an undisclosed health issue that led to him losing 14 pounds. He is also yet to return to Boulder, as he has been staying at his home in Texas.

Once he does return, he will look to build off of Colorado’s 9-4 season in 2024, which may be a challenging task considering he lost his star quarterback and son, Shedeur Sanders (Cleveland Browns), and two-way star Travis Hunter (Jacksonville Jaguars), among others, to the NFL.

Colorado opens the 2025 season against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29.
