Leeds United are considering the future of manager Daniel Farke despite the club’s return to the Premier League.
Farke’s position has been plunged in doubt with owners 49ers Enterprises weighing up whether to appoint a new manager as they prepare for the top division.
The former Norwich manager, 48, has now achieved three promotions from the Championship and his departure would represent a huge shock for supporters.
Yet it is understood that Farke has made it clear that he wants to assemble essentially a new team for the Premier League, while there are also doubts over his record outside the Championship.
Farke was relegated with Norwich in the 2019-20 season and then, after leading them straight back to the top flight, sacked early into the 2021-22 campaign.
The German’s dismissal came hours after the club’s first league win of the campaign, at Brentford, though his team had secured only five points from 11 matches.
Farke was appointed by Leeds in July 2023 and has two years remaining on his contract in West Yorkshire.
Leeds’ American owners completed their £170 million takeover of the club in July 2023 and have huge ambitions for the short and long-term future.
Shortly after promotion was secured on Easter Monday, chairman Paraag Marathe issued a statement on the club website outlining his determination to make the club a mainstay at the top level.
He wrote: “The Premier League is where Leeds belong, and our goal is to establish a long-term presence there.
“With that in mind, we have been quietly preparing the club for this moment. The road ahead won’t be easy, but we are ready to step confidently into this next chapter.”
Despite the uncertainty over Farke’s future, Leeds remain in contention to lift the Championship title. They are level on points with Burnley but top the table on goal difference. Leeds have two matches remaining, with a home game against Bristol City followed by a trip to Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the season.
