South CarolinaQB LaNorris Sellers made his season debut this afternoon in a win over Virginia Techin Atlanta. Since watching that film from today, Dan Orlovsky sees why scouts like him at the next level, with a comparison of him to one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL.

At halftime of No. 6 Notre Dame vs. No. 10 Miami on ABC, Orlovsky spoke about Sellers’ performance in the 24-11 win for the Gamecocks this afternoon. He thinks people in the pros are high on him because he sees a more athletic version of Ben Roethlisberger in him.

Because he is Big Ben, but fast,” said Orlovsky. “He’s 6’3”, 235 pounds. A tremendous athlete, but the ability that he has shown to throw the ball downfield has grown.”

“He’s one of the best quarterbacks in football,” Orlovsky said.

In the victory over the Hokies, Sellers started his season by being 12-19 (63.2%) for 209 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 25 yards and another score. He continues to develop as a redshirt sophomore who’s a second-year starter, but the flashes continue to be there. That was again evident on both of his scores, as he barreled in for a rushing score from 15 yards while completing a 64-yard touchdown to WR Nyck Harbor to really close out the win. It’s moments like those, as he continues to see his game grow within a pro-ready body, why Sellers is already projected to be one of the top overall picks in the NFL Draft, whether in 2026 or in 2027.

Sellers has a lot of film left to put out there as this season continues before potentially being a prospect, even as early as next spring. Still, for now, there aren’t many better comparisons for him to have already than an all-time in ‘Big Ben’, one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the National Football League.

LaNorris Sellers gifts game ball to Frank Beamer after win over Virginia Tech

South Carolina knocked off Virginia Tech today in a game that carried a little extra significance for Shane Beamer, and his players apparently knew it. The tie-in? Frank Beamer, his father, was the long-time coach at Virginia Tech, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018 largely due to his contributions to the Hokies.

So, after the game, QB LaNorris Sellers made sure to seek out Frank Beamer. When he found him, he had a game ball to hand him from the win for the Gamecocks. Beamer was beaming as he received it, with it clearly being a special moment for him too.
