Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs outfoxed the Las Vegas Aviators (Athletics), 10-8.
Will Sanders started and got battered for six runs on five hits over 4.1 innings, which included a three-run home run in the fourth. Sanders walked four and struck out two.
Luke Little pitched 1.2 innings of relief and allowed no runs, no hits and no walks. He did, however, hit two batters while striking out two.
Tom Cosgrove pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth and got the win. Cosgrove gave up no hits, but he did walk two while striking out one.
Nate Pearson gave up a run on two hits in the bottom of the ninth, but still got the save. The tying run was on second base when Pearson got the final out, however. Pearson also walked one and struck out no one.
Hayden Cantrelle hit a grand slam with two outs in the top of the ninth to turn a 7-6 Las Vegas lead into a 10-7 Iowa lead. it was just his third home run on the year. Cantrelle went 1 for 5.
Catcher Carlos Pérez was 3 for 5 with an RBI double in the top of the first. Pérez scored twice.
Left fielder Jonathon Long was 2 for 5 with a double. He scored twice and drove in two runs.
DH Moisés Ballesteros went 3 for 4 with a double and a walk.
Center fielder Kevin Alcántara was 3 for 5 with two runs batted in.

Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies overthrew the Birmingham Barons (White Sox), 4-2.
Jaxon Wiggins threw the first three innings and didn’t allow a run. He gave up two hits, walked no one and struck out two.
After Chase Watkins gave up two runs in three innings of work, the Smokies scored four runs in the seventh inning and the win went to Mitchell Tyranski in relief. Tyranski allowed just one baserunner over two innings of work, a hit batsman. Tyranski struck out one.
A.J. Puckett pitched the ninth inning and got the save. He allowed no runs on one hit. Puckett struck out two and walked no one.
Right fielder Jaylen Palmer hit a game-tying two-run double in the seventh. Palmer was 1 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base. He scored once.
After Palmer doubled, shortstop Jefferson Rojas hit at two-run single to give the Smokies the lead. Rojas went 1 for 4 with a walk.
Center fielder Brett Bateman went 3 for 5.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs lost their fifth-straight game to the Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals), 5-4 in ten innings.
Kenten Egbert pitched the first five innings and allowed four runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out one.
Luis Martinez-Gomez threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to force extras and retired the first two batters in the tenth after South Bend failed to score in the top of the inning. But Martinez-Gomez surrendered a two-out walk-off single to end the game. His final line was one unearned run on one hit over 1.2 innings. Martinez-Gomez struck out two.
South Bend scored four runs on just four hits. Rafael Morel was 1 for 3 and was hit by a pitch. He stole two bases and scored two runs.
Edgar Alvarez went 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI single.
A great catch by Kade Snell in left field. Actually, it was in shallow center field, but Snell was playing left.
South Bend has now fallen three games back of Beloit and into third place, a half a game behind second-place Quad Cities. There are just seven games left to play in the season.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans caged the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Astros), 5-3.
Starter Ethan Flanagan pitched three scoreless innings, giving up three hits. He struck out four and walked no one.
Landon Ginn gave up the lead when he gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but collected the win after the Pelicans re-took the lead in the top of the eighth. Ginn’s final line was two runs on five hits over three innings. Ginn struck out three and walked no one.
Ethan Bell threw the ninth and got the save. He got into a jam with a one-out walk and single, but he managed to escape the runners-on-the-corners, one-out jam with no runs scoring. Bell struck out one.
DH Alexey Lumpuy tacked on an insurance run with a solo home run in the top of the ninth. It was Lumpuy’s tenth home run this year. Lumpuy was 1 for 4 with a walk. He also stole two bases.
The Pelicans re-took the lead with an RBI single by third baseman Miguel Olivo in the top of the eighth. Olivo was 2 for 4 and scored once.
Shortstop Angel Cepeda went 2 for 5 with an RBI.
Second baseman Jose Escobar went 3 for 5.
