Cowboys 'Worst' Draft Grade Revealed Due To 1 Major Mistake

FRISCO – The 2025 NFL Draft is in the books and the Dallas Cowboys have made their picks.

Owner Jerry Jones and his staff of coaches and scouts ended up making nine selections this offseason … with the plan being to rely on some of the kids to help make much-needed improvements to this year’s roster.

Coming into the process? One of those needs was wideout, and in the end, the “Best Player Available” philosophy pushed by scouting chief Will McClay and new coach Brian Schottenheimer won out.

So … that receiver plan is a “failure” of sorts.

But that doesn’t mean all is lost.

CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco thinks the Cowboys did well throughout the selection show, regardless of missing out on a pass catcher.

Dallas Cowboys: B+

Best Pick: I love third-round corner Shavon Revel. He suffered a torn ACL last year, but is expected to be ready for the season. If not for the injury, he’s a first-round pick.

Worst Pick: It’s not any of their picks, but rather not addressing receiver with their first three picks. They have to get somebody who can help balance the field for CeeDee Lamb.

The Skinny: They added some good players, even if taking a guard at No. 12 seems high. Tyler Booker, that guard, will be a good player. I do like Revel in the third-round edge, Donovan Ezeiruaku in the second. I love running back Jaydon Blue in the fifth. It was a good haul, but I wanted to see an early receiver taken.

While it’s true the Cowboys weren’t able to find a receiver within the draft, there will be plenty of time for that this offseason. The important thing is that Dallas added to both the offensive and defensive lines.

Adding to the offensive line’s protection of quarterback Dak Prescott could take a lot of pressure off the 31-year-old, who will turn 32 before the season starts.

Better pass protection means more time to throw, which, in turn, hopefully means a more consistent passing game.

A receiver could’ve helped in that area, too, of course. (And given CowboysCountry.com’s scoops on the Cowboys trying to trade for a veteran there? It can still happen.)

But for now …  if that’s the “worst” Dallas did? Dallas did OK.
