Cowboys' Tyler Booker Reveals Self-Awareness in Training Camp Scouting Report

Dallas Cowboys right guard Tyler Booker has had himself a positive start to training camp, but he knows there’s a long way to go.

With Booker penciled in as the starting right guard to replace Zack Martin, after a couple of good practices with the first team, the grind of camp might have gotten to the rookie, with the standards slipping and veteran Rob Jones taking his place.

Some could see that as a big slap in the face for a first-round pick, but Booker knows it’s part of the process.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day, and I know there’s a lot I have to improve on in order to be seen as a contributor on this team,” Booker said. “I knew the struggles would come, but I’m prepared to handle any adversity that comes my way.”

So, Tyler is self-aware. Brilliant.

With Brian Schottenheimer’s compete-every-day mantra fueling the Cowboys’ training camp, Booker knows that there will be ups and downs, and that just because he is a first-round pick and slated to start, doesn’t mean there won’t be bumps in the road along the way.

Getting relegated to the second team isn’t ideal, but it is all part of the learning process, and Booker will be the better for it.

Consider it the first stone Booker must walk toward being the Week 1 starter, with Jones also showing Tyler the ropes as that veteran presence. So, despite competing for a starting job, the pair is developing a relationship that will no doubt help Booker in the long run.

Training camp isn’t for the faint-hearted, and Booker is now finding that out.
