Cowboys’ Training Camp Coming ‘Eze’ for Rookie Donovan Ezeiruaku originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Dallas Cowboys’ training camp is well underway in Oxnard. We are only three days in, but players are already starting to make a name for themselves.
Yes, we get it, pads aren’t on yet, but in the case of EDGE Donovan Ezeiruaku, the Boston College Eagles stud has been borderline unstoppable on the practice field.
The rookie’s get-off has been noticeable, with his speed to go quarterback hunting catching the eye on nearly every play. Plus, his ability to get out into the flat and snuff out a screen play was also a big tick in the rookie’s column.
What has been good and bad is that “Eze” has been seen blowing past left tackle Tyler Guyton multiple times. Now, pads aren’t on, so no definitive statements will be made, but Ezeiruaku is making his presence known.
“He had a good day and jumped off the field,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “You guys like, ‘Oh, there he is again. There he is again. There’s that man again.’ The timing of his footwork for a rookie, his pass rush adjustments, and how he can react off of how a guy plays him, whether he uses an inside hand or an outside hand punch, is impressive.
“We’re seeing what we loved about him on film, and just the speed and the effortlessness that it takes to rush the passer is really good. But also to his credit, he’s more than just a one-trick pony that’s a pass rusher. He can set the edge with that length that he has and having a really good camp.”
It is clear that Ezeiruaku is making everyone take notice and looks to be a steal, and the prospect of having him opposite Micah Parsons bookending Dallas’ defensive line is a tantalizing prospect.
Granted, we are still early in camp, but Ezeiruaku is doing everything needed to prove he is deserving of more snaps. On Day 3 of camp, he took far more first-team reps and was still getting home to Dak Prescott.
It’s early, but “Eze” is one player Cowboys Nation can get excited about, and if he can continue this level of production when the pads come one, goodness me, he’s going to feast in 2025.
