Cowboys-Ex Trey Lance Gets Chargers Preseason Opportunity

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback and former Dallas Cowboy Trey Lance is going to get his preseason opportunity against the Detroit Lions in the Hall of Fame game this week, per CBS Sports.

After an up-and-down career, Lance spent a couple of seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, serving as the third-string quarterback but never made it to the point where he seriously pushed Cooper Rush for the QB2 role.

Now in L.A. with Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert, Lance will get the chance to strut his stuff in Canton to open the NFL offseason.

We know that Lance isn’t going to usurp Herbert, but what the former first-round pick can do is prove he is deserving of a potential backup role.

Preseason is a little tricky because you are playing against third and fourth-string players, but this is an opportunity that Lance simply has to take.

Having been up and down all throughout his career and spending the past couple of seasons in the background, Lance has a chance to remind the football world that there is still something to cling to.

Granted, a good preseason outing in the Hall of Fame game won’t likely move the needle too much, but it certainly beats the alternative.

Lance got some game time last offseason with the Cowboys. He initially looked scratchy, but the longer he played, the better he looked before starting the Week 18 game against the Washington Commanders.

Now, Lance gets another preseason chance with the Chargers and Harbaugh. Let’s see if he can make the most of it.
