After much understandable consternation at Dallas Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, it seems left tackle Tyler Guyton suffered a bone fracture on Monday that is expected to sideline him for up to six weeks …

And not the torn ACL that was first feared.

That earlier predicted diagnosis would’ve put the second-year lineman out for the year. But an MRI revealed the fracture … and the timeline suggested that it is possible that Guyton – a first-round NFL Draft pick a year ago – might not miss many games at all to start the regular season.

The Cowboys are slated to play in the NFL’s Thursday night season kickoff game at the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4.

The Cowboys selected Guyton with pick No. 29 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma and he got 11 starts as a rookie at left tackle.

Guyton spent this offseason remaking his body, coming back stronger and more fit, all of which had earned acclaim from first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer. And this weekend, team owner Jerry Jones named Guyton among the three Cowboys who’ve stood out to him.

Earlier in the day, another O-lineman, Rob Jones, was revealed to have a broken bone in his neck. And starting right tackle Terrence Steele is working through an ankle problem.

If the Cowboys need to replace Guyton at left tackle, Asim Richards will likely get first crack, though Dallas could also slide All-Pro guard Tyler Smith to tackle in an effort to protect quarterback Dak Prescott will be key to those hopes.
