It sends the kick returner and former receiver-turned-running back on the hunt for his seventh NFL team in a career that has spanned 12 seasons.
Initially drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round with the 29th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Patterson was a jack-of-all-trades player for whatever team he landed on.
However, he has always been known for his special-teams heroics, owning the most kick returns for a touchdown in NFL history with nine.
Primarily a special-teams contributor for the Vikings, he played four seasons in Minnesota before bouncing around with the Raiders, New England Patriots, and Chicago Bears.
He eventually found a new home with the Atlanta Falcons, where he changed his position to running back under head coach Arthur Smith.
Patterson totaled 1,166 yards in 2021, the best season of his career, after making the switch.
He later followed Smith to Pittsburgh after the former head coach landed with the Steelers as an offensive coordinator in 2024. Patterson ultimately played a depth role for Pittsburgh, totaling just 215 scrimmage yards for his lone season in the Steel City.
With plenty of time left in training camp, Patterson will now try to find an open roster spot in a different NFL city.
